๐Ÿ“– Description

Avengers Vol. 1 #112, published in June 1973, features the first appearance of Mantis, a mysterious martial artist with empathic powers and cosmic significance. Though she initially appears as an enigmatic companion to the Swordsman, Mantis would go on to become one of the most important figures in Avengers lore, particularly in the Celestial Madonna Saga.

In this issue, Mantis is introduced during a time of deep internal change for the team. Meanwhile, the Lion Godโ€”a mystical deity opposed to Wakandaโ€™s Panther Godโ€”emerges to challenge Black Panther directly, resulting in a fierce and symbolic battle that threatens the teamโ€™s unity and the balance of power.

Written by Steve Englehart and illustrated by Don Heck, this issue blends mysticism, martial arts, and myth, setting the stage for a much larger cosmic and spiritual storyline that would stretch well into the mid-1970s.
